Ardhagiri, Sri Veeranjaneya Swamy temple, Chittoor district

Ardhagiri Sri Veeranjaneya Swamy temple is situated at Aragonda village, in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The temple is believed to be built in the 12th century by Nolamba dynasty. The rays of the sun pass through the sanctum and fall on the feet of Lord Anjaneya and finally disappear when it reaches beyond the head region of Lord Anjaneya.

During Tretayuga, in the war between Rama and Ravana, Lakshmana fell unconscious. To awaken him, Hanuman was asked to bring some herbs from the mountain. As Hanuman was unable to locate the powerful life-restoring herb in the short time, he lifted the entire Sanjeevani Parvatham and was transporting. In night time Bharath brother of Lord Rama thought that the moving mountain was going to hurt and he immediately shot an arrow at it. Due to its effect, half of the mountain fell down at this place and hence, the name Ardhagiri. In the local language, it means Half Mountain.

The Ardhagiri Sri Veeranjaneya Swamy temple holds the sacred Sanjeevaraya Pushkarini (pond or temple tank) which contains the holy theertham which never gets dried up in any situation. Drinking the holy water from Sanjeevaraya Pushkarini is believed to have the power to cure many types of skin problems.
