One of the most prominent festivals of India
that falls during the monsoon period is Ganesh Chaturthi. It is celebrated to
mark the birth of revered and beloved Hindu god Ganpati or Ganesha. People
bring home beautiful idols and embellish them with colorful clothes and
elaborate ornaments. Prayer sessions called aartis are held over 11 days to pay
respects to Ganpati and on the last day, the idol is immersed in a nearby water
body in a process called visarjan.
Shri Vidyaranya Vichara Vinimaya Kannadigara
Sangha, was started with the enthusiasm of a handful of youths searching for a
forum to involve themselves and share their thoughts and enthusiasm at
Basavanagudi, Bangalore. Later it was transformed as Shri Vidyaranya Yuvaka
Sangha. Celebration of Ganesha Utsava has been one of the important activities
of the Sangha, which has successfully completed fifty four years. It is
popularly called Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava. This is the longest running pandal
for Ganesha Celebrations in the city. APS College ground of Basavanagudi used
to host this mega event for close to 5 decades and now it has been shifted to
