Kailasagiri, Kaiwara

Kailasagiri is a Cave Temple which is about 7Kms from Kaiwara. Here the temples are located inside man made caves in a monolithic stone hill. Construction started about fifteen years back and the process of making caves is still in progress. One can have an awesome view of the rugged stone hills and the plains below, while climbing for about a kilometer from the parking lot.

Even though the work is in progress, one can go inside and have a look into the caves and the installed idols. Inside the Kailasagiri caves there are three shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Four faced Lord Shiva and Goddess Lakshmi. The entrance is through the big hall, where a stage has been created. Many idols have been carved on the rock in the path leading to the temples from the big hall.  It is very cold and pleasant inside even though it is very hot outside. If anyone shouts then it echoes even outside. One more massive Linga is under construction adjacent to the three caves.

Kaiwara has been a holy city since Satya-yuga, when Sri Amara Narayana temple was established by Indra. During Treta-yuga Sri Rama is supposed to have visited Kaiwara twice. In Dwapara-yuga, Kaiwara was known as Ekachakrapura and was dwelling of Pandavas during their incognito exile. In the current days, Kaiwara is famous for Sri Yogi Naraeyana Yathindra popularly known as Kaiwara Thataiyya. His most popular literary contribution is Kalajnana, a prophetic text.
